FACTS FOR TODAY: Choosing the right colours for your house
Choosing the right colours for your house
James Henry Leigh Hunt, best known as Leigh Hunt, an English poet and writer, once said “Colours are the smiles of nature”.
Colours amongst other things were there before existence. The use of colour has been an important aspect of life for as long as humanity has existed. Colours tell stories, colours send messages, colours even influence moods and behaviour.
Houses and rooms have different colours for different reasons and are based on owner preference and/or experiences.
So the big question today is how to choose the right paint foryour house? Decisions, decisions.
New home owners think about this question more than they think about when to move in. Colours as said before tell stories and send messages. So choosing the right colour for your house must tell a story and/or send a message of who you are, where you from and what the future holds for you
Let’s begin with what you are like as an individual.
Are you outgoing?
Are you shy?
Are you the go with the flow type?
Each personality is distinct to each individual, and personalities lead people to lend towards some colours than others. Social and scientific studies have proven that each type of personality lends towards a different colour for their homes. If you are the friendly, cheerful and confident type your colour is orange. These people tend to want their house to appeal to the passer-byor to his/her neighbours to be able to attract friends and always show people how joyful they are. A person who is more on the bold and youthful enthusiasm side would go for a hard colour like red or black, showing people how bold and assertive they are. Then you come to a lay low person, someone who doesn’t really have friends but can be a lot of fun to be with, this person will lend more towards green or blue. To show people that they aren’t necessarily too shy but still not let anyone invade their private space. Then to the shy and reserved person, the one who just wants to get inside their home and just stay indoors. These people lend more towards ash which makes them feel warm and accepted.
Another factor to consider is the type of community you live in. Some communities may have some poor road system which may deface your house in Ghana have shown that there more than 40% of residential area roads still in deplorable state.
(Red roads) road that have coated with red sand bring out a lot of dust and when it rains it brings about a lot of mud. Imagine painting your walls white I’m such a residential area, your beautiful white walls will be defaced the minute a vehicle uses the road in front of your house.
Darker colours would help with the dirt so you would not have to worry about the roads and the rains. House closer to main roads too have this same risks. Some drivers may stealth their car on your wall and deface the paint. Again darker colours would be a bolster option then.
In conclusion the colour of paint for your house shouldn’t just be chosen without careful thought and a laid down plan. Consider your personality and how you want people to see you through the colour you choose for your house. Not forgetting residential factors too, we all want your house to look in top shape when we come visit.
